My 1993 Ford Escort EV. This car was purchased new in 1993 and immediately converted to electric by a previous owner. I bought it in October 2004 and gave it a fresh set of batteries (20 Deka Intimidators) and made a few other updates to the instrumentation and to prepare it for the colder climate. It runs on 120VDC nominal, with a Curtis 1221C 400 amp controller. The drivetrain uses the stock 5-speed manual transmission and clutch. It has vacuum-assist brakes, hot water heat and AC. 14 of the batteries are in the rear cargo area, 6 are under the hood, leaving the passenger compartment space fully available. |
