E-T Original Charger
[Tom] [The ET Arrives] [Original Charger] [Lift Motor]

My first project was to reinstall an original-style charger. When the E-20 arrived, it had a home made substitute based on a big old variac. From the family parts depot, I acquired the needed parts to reinstall the original style unit.

First step was to check the charger out to make sure it was working OK. To prove that all was well, I took it down to the ‘scope. Two pictures from that below (that look kinda rough since they were hand-held shots off the screen.) On the left is the wave form between the centertap and one leg on the output side of the transformer. On the right is the output after the diodes. Both are under no-load conditions. Scope is set for DC input, 20 v/div and 2 ms/div.

Xformer Out
Rectified Output (no load)

And then the installation.

Innards Installed

The innards in place (left) and the final setup, charging away (below). The timer part seems to work too. Now to figure out what to set it to.
